Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before buying a container home in Australia.

Council Approval & Regulations

Do I need council approval for a container home in Australia?

It depends on your state, council, and how you intend to use the home. As a general guide:

  • If the home is kept as a relocatable structure (on wheels, not permanently fixed to land) and classified as a caravan, most councils do not require full Development Approval (DA).
  • In NSW, a complying development certificate (CDC) can fast-track approval — often within 20 days — for homes meeting specific size and setback requirements.
  • In WA, granny flats under 70sqm that meet setback requirements may not need council approval.
  • In QLD, keeping plumbing fixtures under five and locating the home close to the main dwelling may allow it to be classified as an extension.

We always recommend contacting your local council before ordering, and we’re happy to advise based on your specific location. Every situation is different.

Can I live in a container home permanently?

Yes — but the approval pathway changes. Permanent dwellings classified as Class 1a buildings require full development approval and engineering certification in most states. Our homes are engineered to meet these standards. Contact us to discuss your intended use and we’ll guide you through the process.

Are container homes legal in Australia?

Yes. Container homes are legal in Australia and are built and delivered by a growing number of Australian manufacturers. The legal classification depends on how the home is used — as a temporary/relocatable structure (caravan classification) or a permanent dwelling (Class 1a building). Both pathways are available; the approval requirements differ.

Pricing & Finance

Our homes start from $[PLACEHOLDER PRICE] for the Studio model, $[PLACEHOLDER PRICE] for the 1 Bedroom, and $[PLACEHOLDER PRICE] for the 2 Bedroom. Prices include supply of the home. Delivery and installation costs vary by location — contact us for a delivery estimate to your area.

What's included in the price?

Every home includes: galvanised steel frame, fully fitted bathroom, kitchen cabinetry and sink, insulated walls/floor/ceiling, electrical fit-out, windows, and entry door. Optional extras include air conditioning, solar-ready provisions, off-grid packages, and verandah/deck additions.

Is finance available?

Delivery & Installation

How long does delivery take?

Ready-to-ship models are available for delivery within [PLACEHOLDER — e.g. 2–4 weeks] of order confirmation. Custom or modified builds may take longer. We deliver Australia-wide.

How long does installation take?

Installation typically takes one day. Our homes arrive fully fitted on an engineered trailer and are set down on your prepared site. You’ll need to arrange utility connections (power, water, waste) separately — we can advise on what’s needed.

What site preparation is required?

You’ll need a level, firm surface — compacted gravel, concrete pad, or steel stumps are all suitable. The exact requirements depend on your site conditions. We’ll advise you during your consultation.

Do you deliver to rural or remote areas?

Yes — we deliver Australia-wide, including regional and rural areas. Delivery costs for remote locations are calculated separately. Contact us with your postcode for an estimate.

Quality & Warranty

What warranty do you offer?

[PLACEHOLDER — add your real warranty terms. Example: ‘We offer a [X]-year structural warranty on all frames and a [Y]-year warranty on all fittings and fixtures.’]

Are your homes insured?

We recommend insuring your container home as a relocatable structure or dwelling, depending on its classification. Standard home and contents insurers cover relocatable homes in most states. We can recommend partners who specialise in this area.

Are the homes bushfire or cyclone rated?

[PLACEHOLDER — add detail on BAL ratings or cyclone ratings if applicable. If not, note what conditions the homes are designed for.]
